Maison Mabileau
Laurent MABILEAU, founder of Domaine Laurent Mabileau, comes from a family of winegrowers in the Loire Valley going back many generations.
His two grandfathers, Maurice Lorieux in Bourgeuil, and Léon Mabileau in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, were already talented producers. The two families probably did not suspect that their grandson would one day associate the family name « MABILEAU » to two AOP wineries, each one defined by its ‘terroir’ and its history.
The nature of the soil has a decisive influence on the characteristics of the wines produced. For a red Bourgueil wine from Domaine Laurent Mabileau, the grapes are grown in two different types of soil : one silica based, bringing a predominantly red fruit flavour, the other clay-limestone, giving character to the wine, and allowing it to refine as it ages through the years
It was on a clay-limestone soil that around 1937 Maurice Lorieux planted his first vineyard at a place known as « les perrières » : the grapes from these very same vines make up still today part of this vintage.
Our Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil red wines come exclusively from a ‘terroir’ of gritty soil. The wine is produced in our cellar equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, adapted to our generations old family know-how. The Domaine Laurent Mabileau is a family sized business, where the continuous search for quality goes side by side with the modesty of a man of the soil.
